FAQ
I need an appointment in the evening, is this offered?
Yes, evening appointments are available but each therapist at The Family Place MKE manages their own availability and schedule. Evening appointments are highly sought after therefore may not be available in the timeframe you wish. The more flexibility you have in your availability the sooner you can be seen.
I’ve never heard of Play Therapy, do you just play with my child?
Play Therapy is a highly researched and evidence-based form of mental health therapy for young children (3-10 years old). In Play Therapy a trained therapist will use play materials such as toys, art, and puppets to interact with your child to address the concerns you have. Play Therapy is not simply playing together, for additional information on how play therapy works please view these videos from the University of North Texas’s Center for Play Therapy:
Play Therapy for Children
Introduction to Play Therapy for Parents
I’ve taken my child to a therapist who used play, but they weren’t a Registered Play Therapist™, what is the difference?
A Registered Play Therapist™ was granted this designation by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) and has demonstrated advanced knowledge and skill in using play therapy through Continuing Education hours and supervised practice beyond graduate school training. A mental health therapist does not have to hold this designation to conduct play therapy, but when you see “RPT™” after a therapist’s name you can trust that their training has been thorough.
